Beginners, Glossary and Background

Object-oriented programs consist of objects which belong to classes and perform actions known as methods. Object Oriented tools are designed to work with objects and enable the programmer to browse through objects, display class hierarchies and inheritance structures, invoke methods, and display data values. Incomplete programs can be executed so that program fragments can be tested immediately after writing. Source code checks and runtime checks can detect many types of error.

An Object-Oriented Database Management System (OODBMS) is a DBMS that stores data about objects and their relationships. If the objects are multimedia objects the DBMS may be used to view them.
