Computer Imaging - Knowledge Bases
  • Computer Vision Related Links (Carnegie Mellon's Calibrated Imaging Lab)
    • The Calibrated Imaging Lab is a resource used by the CMU research community to obtain high quality images in a tightly controlled and yet flexible environment. A wide choice of lighting and video cameras including a cooled, very-low-noise photometrics camera are available. A six degree of freedom jig permits the cameras to be accurately positioned under computer control, and a rail and turntable permit control of an object's position. The lab has been used to study color, texture and illumination and the impact of these on computer vision tasks such as estimating surface orientation, object segmentation and physical model creation. It has also been used to calibrate cameras (an implementation of Tsai's calibration technique is available), and to take images of objects for stereo and 3D shape reconstruction.
  • Digital Learning Center (DLC) (Kodak)
    • The DLC was developed to educate people about the digital world and to help them succeed with digital imaging. The site was built on the basics of educational instruction and has been utilized by thousands of people to take pictures
  • Imaging Sites Worldwide (The Center for Electronic Imaging Systems)
  • LBL Imaging and Collaborative Computing Group
    • "The group focuses on research in computer vision, artificial intelligence, and collaborative computing. In the area of computer vision research, we have developed algorithms for segmentation, tracking, shape recovery, and visual servoing. In the area of collaborative computing, the group has developed a channel for microscopy over the wide area network. Our intent is to couple remote operation of scientific instruments with visual routines and to bring new functionalities to the unique scientific instruments in National laboratories."
  • LBNL Image Library (Imaging and Distributed Computing Group, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory)
    • The LBNL Image Library is a distributed, wide area network based approach to cataloguing, searching, storing, and providing Web access for hi-resolution images. It provides an Web-based image management service to the LBNL community. Its capabilites include rapid browsing of thumbnail sized images, indexed searching over associated text information for each image, collection curation done exclusively via Web tools and text and image format and access control customizable by collection.
  • Links to IDL code libraries and archives (Research Systems, Inc.)
    • "IDL, Interactive Data analysis Language, is a complete package for the interactive reduction, analysis, and visualization of scientific data and images. Optimized for the workstation environment, IDL integrates a responsive array oriented language with numerous data analysis methods and an extensive variety of two and three dimensional displays into a powerful tool for researchers."
  • NAS Technology Visualization (Numerical Aerospace Simulation Facility, NASA Ames Research Center)
    • Scientific visualization is an important area of research at the NAS Facility. The visualization products developed here focus on meeting the data analysis needs of aerosciences researchers. The NAS Facility's Visualization Lab staff consults with and assists researchers in creating animations, videos, and acoustical data to help analyze and present scientific results. Browse through a gallery of images and videos related to the scientific research done using NAS Facility hardware and tools.
  • Poynton's Color Technology Page (Charles Poynton)
    • "Permanent, easy solutions to many of the problems in tone and color reproduction in computing require assistance - even leadership - from the developers and manufacturers of hardware and software. Solving that problem is the primary goal of the Gamma FAQ and Color FAQ documents."
  • Raytracing Information and Links - Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer (Persistence of Vision Development Team)
    • The Persistence of Vision Raytracer is a high-quality, totally free tool for creating stunning three-dimensional graphics. It is available in official versions for Windows 95/98/NT, DOS, the Macintosh, i86 Linux, SunOS, and Amiga. The source code is available for those wanting to do their own ports.
  • Scientific Visualization Studio (NASA - Goddard Space Flight Center)
    • The Scientific Visualization Studio (SVS) works closely with scientists in the creation of visualizations in order to promote a greater understanding of Earth and Space Science Research Activities at Goddard Space Flight Center. The Scientific Visualization Studio is composed of a customer-oriented creative team who artfully weave together scientific stories by combining the visualization of remote sensing data with conceptual scientific animations for presentation to the scientific community and to the general public through educational institutions, museums, CD's and videos.
